It is important to note that to use the DDE Server to link applications, the Data Director must be active, the application of origin of the data must be active and the application of destination must also be active. This means that the DDE Server can now be used to transfer data for manipulation from the point of origin of the data to the point of destination. The application of origin is the Updata group of programs and the destination application is any windows based application that supports the manipulation of data such as Lotus and excel i.e. any application that allows calculations on data.
To explain the use of the Server we would have to carry out a link and some calculations. As an example, we would use Trader for the data origin and Excel for the destination.
